While some studios have adopted a recent practice of remaking movies that came out a mere decade ago, a remake of Nosferatu makes sense. While the original film has remained a classic and a horror staple, it was created before the widespread existence of talkies, or films with synchronized sound. Eggers readapts that story, based originally on Bram Stoker’s Dracula, with modern technology, dialogue, and a fresh perspective. Although Thomas Hutter (Nicholas Hoult) remains an integral part of the story, there is a lot more consideration placed upon his wife, Ellen (Lily-Rose Depp), who is the subject of much of the horrors Nosferatu inflicts. Eggers has been trying to get this movie off the ground since 2015, and you can feel how much passion he has for this material. His shot compositions are exquisite, as he plays around with Nosferatu’s imposing silhouette. The atmosphere he crafts is surreal and nightmarish. Even though the titular character does not appear on screen for a majority of the film, you can feel his presence in every scene. This is a return to unnerving horror after Eggers’s brief departure in The Northman. He excels at his work here, collaborating with cinematographer Jarin Blaschke to create dynamic, beautiful shots designed to grab your attention. Nosferatu is a visually arresting experience that fills viewers with cold, unmistakable dread. The performances are a significant part of what sells the terror. Hoult has turned in many excellent performances this year in films like Juror #2, The Order, and even The Garfield Movie. This is another notch on his belt, as he brings an understated peril to the doomed protagonist. 2024 has had no shortage of masterful horror movie performances. From Nell Tiger Free in The First Omen to Naomi Scott in Smile 2, female actors have been crushing it. We can add another name to the list of incredible performances: Lily-Rose Depp. Anya Taylor-Joy was initially cast as Ellen before being replaced by Depp. Taylor-Joy is such a phenomenal actress that losing her can be disappointing. But somehow, Depp brings something powerful, sensual, and unexpected. It’s her best performance yet. We haven’t even gotten the chance to talk about Bill Skarsgård. He’s become the action hero in two movies from this year, Boy Kills World and The Crow, but he’s often at his best when he plays villains like in IT and John Wick: Chapter 4. We’ve seen him transform into Pennywise before, but even under all the clown makeup, you can tell it’s him, even if his performance is terrifying. Skarsgård is operating on a different level here. You would not be able to tell that it’s Skarsgård in this movie because his work as Count Orlok does not look or sound like him in the slightest. His voice is deeper, he’s covered in makeup, and he is haunting to look at. Dafoe is an interesting casting choice, as he once played Nosferatu in his Oscar-nominated role in the 2000 film Shadow of the Vampire, which was based on the making of the original 1922 film. He’s excellent, as is the rest of this stellar cast. The characters are always at the whim of Nosferatu, rarely ever getting a break from his wrath. Once the story truly starts, it never stops. Like all the best remakes, this movie uses the same ingredients as the original and cooks up a new recipe tailor-made for genre fans and lovers of the 1922 movie. The lighting, the use of darkness, and the camera movements are all so precise and constructed to bring the best unease and jump scares possible. Nosferatu is a horror movie that works not only with the scary vampire but with how his existence affects the characters. The inclusion of dialogue allows for more complexities in the characters’ relationships. It transfixes you the same way this tale has done for over a century. As ComingSoon’s explains, a score of 8 equates to “Great.” While there are a few minor issues, this score means that the art succeeds at its goal and leaves a memorable impact. The late hit put Lawrence in the fencing position — both fists clenched — and he stayed on the ground for several minutes, while a brawl ensued. Lawrence didn’t require hospitalization for his concussion but it’s unknown when he’ll return. “Thank you to everyone who has reached out/been praying for me,” Lawrence wrote on X. “I’m home and feeling better. Means a lot, thank you all.” Al-Shaair was ejected from the game and faces a fine and potential suspension after his latest unsportsmanlike penalty. The Texans' linebacker was flagged and later fined $11,255 for a late hit out of bounds on Titans running back Tony Pollard last week. Quarterbacks were ranked according to adjusted net yards per pass attempt, which quantifies efficient passing skill. Ties were broken using passer rating. Only rookie quarterbacks with at least 10 games played and 200 total passing attempts were considered. Since 1967, 130 quarterbacks have been drafted in the first round. The biggest reason this success rate is not guaranteed is because there are differences between college and pro offensive systems. After trading for Jarvis Landry, a young wide receiver from the Miami Dolphins, in the offseason, the Browns were on their way. Mayfield's rookie season was filled with many firsts, and the Landry-Mayfield connection filled the stat sheet. As the No. 6 overall pick, expectations were high, but there was also an assumption that it would be a few years before Herbert's development would take shape. Then, Chargers starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor was accidentally punctured in the lung by a team doctor administering a painkiller before the second game of the season, and it wasn't clear what Taylor's status would be moving forward. Considering Robert Griffin III and Andrew Luck headlined the NFL Draft that year, it was not believed that Wilson would be a starter come Week 1, but that quickly changed. Going into the 2012 NFL Draft, Tarvaris Jackson was the Seattle Seahawks' starting quarterback, and the team signed NFL veteran quarterback Matt Flynn as an insurance policy on the injury-prone Jackson . It was assumed in the short term that either Jackson or Flynn would lead the franchise. Once training camp arrived, however, the Seahawks' quarterback position was uncertain. Jackson was traded to the Buffalo Bills, and Flynn was underwhelming at camp, forcing Head Coach Pete Carroll to take a gamble on his rookie quarterback, Wilson, in Week 1. Carroll, nor Wilson, ever looked back. Wilson was one of the best passing quarterbacks that season. He led the Dolphins to a 9-1 record after replacing David Woodley midway through his rookie season, ending with a 12-4 record. Stroud led the NFL in yards and TD-to-interception ratio during his rookie season, which is an efficiency statistic considering he didn't get his first interception until his sixth regular-season game against the New Orleans Saints. While Stroud was a part of the league MVP conversation for most of the season, he didn't ultimately win the title. ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — John Elway says any remorse over bypassing Josh Allen in the 2018 NFL draft is quickly dissipating with rookie Bo Nix's rapid rise, suggesting the Denver Broncos have finally found their next franchise quarterback. Elway said Nix, the sixth passer selected in April's draft, is an ideal fit in Denver with coach Sean Payton navigating his transition to the pros and Vance Joseph's defense serving as a pressure release valve for the former Oregon QB. "We've seen the progression of Bo in continuing to get better and better each week and Sean giving him more each week and trusting him more and more to where last week we saw his best game of the year," Elway said in a nod to Nix's first game with 300 yards and four touchdown throws in a rout of Atlanta. For that performance, Nix earned his second straight NFL Rookie of the Week honor along with the AFC Offensive Player of the Week award. "I think the sky's the limit," Elway said, "and that's just going to continue to get better and better." In a wide-ranging interview with The Associated Press, Elway also touted former coach Mike Shanahan's Hall of Fame credentials, spoke about the future of University of Colorado star and Heisman favorite Travis Hunter and discussed his ongoing bout with a chronic hand condition. It's been five years since Elway announced he was dealing with Dupuytren's contracture, a chronic condition that typically appears after age 40 and causes one or more fingers to permanently bend toward the palm. Elway's ring fingers on both hands were originally affected and he said now the middle finger on his right hand is starting to pull forward. So, he'll get another injection of a drug called Xiaflex, which is the only FDA-approved non-surgical treatment, one that he's endorsing in an awareness campaign for the chronic condition that affects 17 million Americans. South Korea’s Financial Supervisory Service is investigating HYBE and its chairman, Bang Si-hyuk , over allegations he earned $285 million from the company’s 2020 initial public offering through profit-sharing deals with three large shareholders. HYBE, then named Big Hit Entertainment, went public in 2020 after building its primary act, BTS , into global stars. The IPO raised approximately $820 million and confirmed HYBE’s arrival as a major player in the global music business. But while the IPO was a success for the company, many individuals who bought shares for well above the IPO price lost money as the price retreated in the following weeks. Last week, The Korea Economic Daily broke the story that Bang personally pocketed about 400 billion won ($285 million) from agreements made with private shareholders STIC Investments, Estone Equity Partners and New Main Equity a few years before the IPO. Those agreements, according to the report, called for Bang to receive 30% of the shareholders’ profits from their sale of Big Hit shares following the IPO. But if Big Hit failed to go public before an agreed-upon time, Bang would have had to repurchase the shares plus interest. South Korea’s Financial Supervisory Service was quoted in media reports as saying it’s investigating HYBE and Bang for possible violations of the country’s Capital Markets Act, including how a private equity fund acquired Big Hit shares prior to the IPO and whether Big Hit omitted information from its securities filing. When Big Hit shares debuted on the Korea Exchange on Oct. 15, 2020, strong demand drove the share price from the 135,000 won ($118) IPO price to 351,000 won ($308) on its opening day.
